PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound, in high yield, by oxidizing a thioamide compound using a bis(p-methoxyphenyl)selenoxide as a novel oxidizing agent free of odor and capable of selectively oxidizing a specific functional group. CONSTITUTION:A 1,2,4-thiadiazole compound, a 1,2,4-thiadiazoline compound or a 1,2,4-thiadiazolidine compound is prepared by oxidizing a thioamide compound of formulaI[R1 is 1-6C alkyl, aryl, guanyl, or group of formula II (R3 and R4 are H, 1-6C alkyl, or aryl); R2 is H, 1-6C alkyl, or aryl], e.g. thiobenzamide, thiourea, etc., using bis(p-methoxyphenyl)selenoxide as a novel oxidizing agent.
