PURPOSE:To obtain the solar pond which is constructed easily and is maintained at low cost by a method wherein a plurality of water sealed members each made of a sheet of a gelling agent (PVA, polyacrylic acid and the like) are thrown into a water tank. CONSTITUTION:What is meant by the solar pond is a pond capable of storing solar energy on a large scale without using a mechanical device and the gelling agent used herein is a material such as P.V.A., polyacrylic acid and its salt, polyacryl amid or the like which is capalbe of controlling the discharge of heat from the pond in such a manner that water is added to the gelling agent to increase the viscosity of the water so that the convection of the water hardly takes place. The sheet 10 made of such gelling agent is sealed with water to form the water sealed member 12 and a plurality of such water sealed members are thrown into the water tank while a heat collecting section 13 formed of a black sheet or the like and a heat exchange section 14 are arranged in the lower part of the water tank. With the above structure, the water in the tank does not generate convection and the discharge of heat from the pond is controlled.
