PURPOSE:To easily input clauses by inputting all the clauses by 'KATAKANA' (square form of Japanese syllabary) in case of inputting the clauses to be changed from 'KATAKANA' into 'HIRAGANA' (cursive form of Japanese syllabary) on the way, and then depressing a 'HIRAGANA'/'KANJI' (Chinese character) conversion key to convert each character in a character string successively from the least significant position. CONSTITUTION:Data are inputted from a key input means 1 and then entered into a key entry means 2. When data for 'KANA'/'KANJI' conversion are decided, a conversion key or 'KANA' data is judged by a key discriminating means 3. In case of the conversion key, whether the data are 'KATAKANA' character string or 'KATAKANA' is included in the character string is checked. If no 'KATAKANA' is included in the character string, required 'KANJI' is selected by a character conversion means 4 and a selecting means 5. When 'KATAKANA' is included in the characters, all the characters are inputted by 'KATAKANA' or all the characters are inputted by 'HIRAGANA', converted into 'KATAKANA' characters and then the 'KATAKANA' characters are converted into 'HIRAGANA' characters successively from the least significant position by repeating the means 4 by the required number of times.
