摘要
A high strength structural component of sandwich type construction is proposed. Based on carbon or kevlar fibre reinforced plastic, mainly for medical use (X-ray diagnostics or radiation therapy). - The structural component is in sheet form and has low resistance to high energy radiation. Cross section of the sheet is formed by large radius arcs at the top and small radius arcs at the bottom radiation absorption of this cross section is within acceptable limits. Also, absorption changes gradually with changing direction of incident radiation. - The materials used for the sheet are in line with up-to-date practice, except for the epoxy resin used as a matrix for the matrix an unsatd. polyester resin mix is used, with low viscosity, so that it wets the foam used as the core material and hence takes more of the load, so that the number of covering layers may be reduced. - To prepare the sheet a) the core is formed by cutting from a sheet of hard foam or forming the foam directly in the tool, b) the reinforcement is woven material of carbon or kevlar fibre which is fixed to the core by burning its own material c) the core is then put in a tool of suitable dimensions d) a vacuum is formed within the tool and the resin impregnates the core, and e) surface coating can be carried out during manufacture by adding the covering layer to the tool before the operation, or afterwards.
