PROCESS FOR THE TREATMENT OF MATERIALS CONTAINING HEAVY METALS BY ACID LIXIVATION

Heavy metal-contg. materials are acid leached using spent pickling soln. by (a) reacting the spent soln. with the materials in an oxidising medium to ppte. insoluble iron cpds. and dissolve soluble heavy metal cpds.; (b) separating the solid and liq. phases; (c) adding, to the liq. phase, a reactant which pptes. insoluble cpds. of the heavy metals; and (d) separating the residual liq. phase and the solid phase.
