A filtering material to remove oil from water, specially on board ship, is made of oleophilic plastic foam which also has blind pores. The available cross-sectional area of each open and blind pore should be 10-60 micron and the aggregate volume of the open and blind pores should come to not less than 45% of the volumes of the filter material.
