There is provided an antiinflammatory analgesic gel comprising a non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug of biphenyl acetic acid type, a carboxyvinyl polymer in an amount sufficient for gel formation, water as the solvent, and ethanolamine and/or L-arginine in amount sufficient to raise the pH to within the range pH 7.0 to 9.5.
