The sea based structure has a framework above water level on which the operative equipment is to be mounted. The columns (1) are raisable and lowerable in relation to the horizontal bars (2,3) and to the framework, so that during sea transport they can be hoisted upwards with their lower ends above the level of the sea bed. The structure is installed on site by the horizontal bars being successively fitted to the columns and cross braces (4) fitted between them.
