The wood working machine has a rotary cutting tool and a feed passage for the wood, which is indexed along it. The wood is milled at its leading end for roughly the axial length of the tool, which runs in bearings on opposite sides of the machine. The tol (1) rotates on a fixed spindle (10) keyed to the machine frame (2) and its end face (1a) towards the feed passage when working, forms with the cutter milling plane (18) an acute included angle (B). In the cuneiform space (19) formed by this angle a bracket (12) is inserted for the tool spindle, and equipped with a guard (20) covering most of the adjacent tool end face (1a).
