AbstractIt is a known phenomenon that the web during the dryingmoment in a paper machine shrinks. The shrinkage in themachine direction can be controlled by arranging thedifferent driving groups in the drying section to oper-ate at different speeds. The shrinkage in cross direct-ion, however, heretofore was not brought under control.The present invention has the object to solve thosproblem.According to the invention, the problem of shrinkageis solved in that the web during a certain drying inter-val is subjected to outward directed forces, which areapplied during a suitable drying interval and preferablyat a low dry content, for example directly after thepress section.
