A B S T R A C TREACTOR FOR NON-ISOTHERMIC REACTIONS AND PROCESS FOR THEPREPARATION OF HYDROCARBONS USING SUCH A REACTORReactor comprising a vertically extending vessel (2) pro-vided with a plurality of parallel tubes (8) adapted for beingfilled with catalyst material and substantially verticallyextending between an upper tube plate (10) and a lower tubeplate (9), means (12, 13) for circulating a heat transfer mediumbetween the tube plates (9, 10) along the tubes (8), inletmeans (3, 17, 18) above the tubes (8) for distributing liquidin the form of one or more sprays and gas over the plurality oftubes (8) and outlet means (4, 20) below the plurality of tubes(8) for removal of liquid and gas from the vessel (2), whereinthe plurality of tubes (8) are arranged in rows such that thetubes of adjacent rows are staggered, and wherein the upper tubeplate (10) is provided with holes (15), having a lower part inwhich the tubes (8) are closely fitted and having a substantiallyconcentric upper part diverging in upward direction, the upperends of adjacent holes having edges in common in such a mannerthat the upper end of the upper tube plate (10) is formed byedges (16) arranged in a hexagonal configuration. The inventionfurther relates to a process for the preparation of hydrocarbonsusing such reactor.
