"Method and Arrangement ofCoding Digital Image SignalsUtilizing Interframe Correlation"ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREIn order to encode image signals using interframecorrelation while maintaining high data compression aswell as high resulting images, a motion compensatedinterframe prediction error is orthogonally transformedand then is subject to quantization. Thereafter, thequantized error signal undergoes inverse orthogonaltransformation. In order to compensate for distortionscaused by the quantization, a difference between theinversely orthogonally transformationed error signal andthe original prediction error signal is quantized. Byselecting the quantization characteristics, the influenceor contribution of the orthogonal transformation can becontrolled continuously.
