Abstract of the DisclosureThis invention includes a continuous in-planespiral of monofilament/metallic ribbon which forms apreform for metal matrix composite fabrication. Thepurpose is to provide continuous spiral filamentreinforcement around a hole or central core. Thisspiral monolayer is fabricated by co-winding the fila-ment and a ribbon or wire made from the intendedcomposite material around a mandrel. Monolayers soconstructed could then be stacked to form cylindricalor torus-shaped components and consolidated in adirection parallel to the axis of the shape.
