OPTICAL DETECTION OF CONTRASTED PARTICULES IN AN IMAGE

ABSTRACTOptical detection of contrasted particles in an imageA process is described for detecting thoseobjects of a picture which have a selected size andwhose contrast with respect to the background exceeds apredetermined value. The picture consists of pixels xeach having a digital value F(x) of an optical propertysuch as brightness. The process comprises processing thepicture to retain only those pixels x whose connectedparticle, obtained by thresholding at the value F(x) - H(where H is a predetermined digital value) is notpreserved by a selection process based on size criteriaand implying successive mathematical morphology trans-formations which make it appear, in the larger particlesonly, a marker from which said particles may be re-generated by grain reconstruction. The process may beused for HLA typing.
