ABSTRACTAn electrical resistor having first andsecond cylindrical reistance windings helically wound closelyadjacent one another about a common axis and wound in oppositedirections about such axis. The helical windings of theresistor are connected in parallel and the resistor isprovided with terminals for placing it in series with a circuit to providea resistance in such circuit. The resistors are used ina power distribution system that includes a first systemconnected to a second system by a tie line. The resistorsreferred to as braking resisistors are located adjacentat least one of the power sources and are connected tothe tie line through one or more circuit breakers.
