A TWIN DISC TYPE TOOL TURRET MECHANISM FOR CNC MACHINESABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA twin disc type tool turret mechanism for CNCmachines including a double layer of tool mounting discsattached respectively to two of a three-piece toothedring-type registration and lock coupling. The front discprovides a number of mounting slots for external turningtools and the rear disc provides the same number ofmounting seats for facing, OD turning or internal boringtools. A drive mechanism combined with a hydraulic controlsystem incorporated in/on the turret housing facilitatesunlocking, rotation, and relocking of the discs with theturret housing. The subject turret can also includeprovisions for attachment of revolving tools with anactive spindle and an additional spindle motor foreffecting the required processing operations. Inaddition, both OD and ID probes and a signal transmittingmechanism may be installed in both discs to accomplishin-process measurement of the workpiece.
