Circuits (14, 16) receive electrical signals gathered by means of a sensor (10) in response to a stimulation. The digitised signals are received by a computing device (20) in order to formulate a signal representing, in the time domain, the average of a small number of response signals gathered; formulate the Fourier transform of the averaged signal; in order to detect damped exponential sinusoids contained in the Fourier transform of the averaged signal, and to determine parameters of the detected sinusoids, so as to deduce the said parameters of the information characterising the waves of evoked potential which are contained in the averaged signal.
