The invention relates to a grinding method for ball drum mills and a ball drum mill. It is provided according to the invention that in order to improve the drawing in of material and the friction behaviour in the longitudinal direction of the drum successive balls are subjected, in addition to their rolling movement occurring counter to the direction of rotation of the drum, to a reciprocal relative movement running essentially radial to the drum axis in that the balls are raised or lowered in the radial direction and returned again into their initial position.
