The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for the gentle starting of motor vehicles which have a drive train comprising a combustion engine (1) an electro-hydraulically controlled hydro- mechanical automatic transmission (2), a differential (4), at least one pair of half-shafts (5) and a pair of wheels (6), where appropriate also a universal shaft (3) connecting the automatic transmission (2) to the differential (4), a fuel feed system supplying the engine (1) with fuel and an accelerator pedal (10) regulating this together with a gear selector (13) selecting the gear stage shift variants of the automatic transmission (2). According to the invention an electrical signal is formed by means of a wheel angular velocity signal transmitter (12) from the angular velocity of any structural element or pair of elements of the drive train beginning with the drive shaft of the automatic transmission (2) and ending with the wheel (6) at a wheel speed of zero or practically zero, by means of an engine angular velocity signal transmitter (9) from the angular velocity of the main shaft of the engine (1) at idling speed and by means of an accelerator pedal basic position signal transmitter (11) from the position of the accelerator (10) in its basic position, and from the joint presence of these signals in a control unit (8) a release signal is derived and, with the aid of the gear selector (13) a control signal controlling the forwards or reverse gear shifting of the automatic transmission (2) is derived, following which, if both control signal and release signal are present together, a command signal is generated by moving the accelerator pedal (10) from its basic position, and from the joint presence of the release signal, the control signal and the command signal a switch signal is derived by means of which the solenoid valves (7) controlling the desired gear stage of the automatic transmission (2) are set into the switched position. …IMAGE…
