In the process for leaching gold and/or silver from ores or ore concentrates by using cyanide-containing leaching solutions by adding an aqueous H2O2 solution, it is provided for accelerating the leaching process that the total quantity of the hydrogen peroxide solution required for the leaching step is added to the leaching pulp at the start of leaching, the quantity of the H2O2 solution being determined in such a way that the H2O2 is added at 0.6 to 2.5 times the stoichiometric ratio relative to the cyanide concentration of the leaching pulp. At the same time, the pH of the leaching pulp is adjusted to and maintained at between 7 and 10 or 11 and 13.
