Fast neutron nuclear core. Fertile segments (16) of oxygen-absorbing material (carbide or nitrideuranium) are interposed in the needles (10) of the fuel assemblies between the fissile segments (15). We obtainbetter combustion characteristics while avoiding corroding the sheath (11).;Abstract;In a fast-neutron reactor core, fertile segments (16) of an oxygen-absorbing material (uranium carbide or nitride) areintercalated in the fuel pin assemblies (10) between the fissile segments (15). Combustion characteristics are enhanced andcorrosion of the cladding (11) is prevented.
