BAR CODE READER WITH DIGITIZER AND SEQUENCER

Device scanner / sequencer (10) for processing digital input data from an optical reader and including bar code data. The device is flexible and universal because it can send input as a fixed program signal decoder (20) for decoding the Universal Product Code (UPC) to a programmable processor (26) capable of decoding the universal code product (UPC) and many other barcode. In addition, this device accepts input signals from various types of optical readers (11) including optical drives high speed counter manuals, light pens and magnetic card readers, producing data on a wide frequency range. A large number of individual frequencies are avalaible in the device. One of these frequencies can be selected optimally by the programmable processor (26) as the internal clock of the device and as a clock frequency for the counters of the digitizer (clock S) and another of these frequencies can be selected as clock frequency (M clock) of the cable decoder. A sequencer (28) is used to control the operation of the device so that it passes through a predetermined number of steps after each transition in the code data to input bar.
