PURPOSE:To obtain a regulator for motile function of gastrointestinal tracts containing a 4a-methyl-4,4a,9,10-tetrahydro-2(3H)-phenanthrenone derivative as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A regulator obtained by containing a compound expressed by the formula (R1 is H, alkyl or alkoxy; R2 is H or alkyl), e.g. (+)-1,4a- dimethyl-7-isopropyl-4,4a,9,10-tetrahydro-2(3H)-phenanthrenone, as an active ingredient. The above-mentioned compound is effective in improving chronic gastritis, gastroptosis, postgastrectomy syndrome and digestive tract symptoms in administration of levodopa or carcinostatic agent, e.g. nausea, emesis, anorexia, abdominal distention, epigastric dysphoria, gastralgia or pyrosis. The dose thereof used is normally 1-200mg/kg, preferably 2-100mg/kg a day.
