Method and apparatus for cooling high temperature coke and removing dust from high temperature coke

A process for the cooling of and the removal of dust from high-temperature coke in at least two stages, whereby the coke is cooled in the first stage to less than about 800°C. In this first cooling stage (1), the coke is cooled to a temperature of between 200° and 800°C, and preferably to between about 400 and 650°C; it is then quickly and continuously drawn through a water bath (8), after which it is held in the steam-laden atmosphere of a sealed re-evaporation chamber (14).
