A sub-calibre practice projectile to be mounted in a full-calibre external sabot is formed as two interconnected parts. A main body (1) in engagement with the sabot is made of high strength material, while the body portion (2) including the projectile tip is of lower strength material, e.g. compressed metal and/or ceramic powder. For the interconnection, capable of absorbing high longitudinal pressure forces but with lesser bend and shear strength to provide good target impact properties, an internally threaded bore (6) in one body portion may be engaged by an externally threaded spigot (8) projecting from the other portion. A preferred breaking point is provided in the interconnection zone, e.g. by a circumferential groove (7) or by a transverse bore. ADVANTAGE - With only partial use of expensive material, total cost of projectile is reduced, and tip section is more readily shaped.
