P the invention relates to a method of continuously manufacturing a glass of synthetic silica doped with fluorine. / p & & p & this process consists in decomposing in the burner flame inductive plasma a compound of silicon which is free of hydrogen and to be reacted with the oxygen contained in the gas feeding the burner in order to form the silica; to send it into the flame, preferably on the outside of the burner, a fluorinated compound mineral with the gaseous state and free of hydrogen, such as sulfur hexafluoride, nitrogen trifluoride or their mixture, the fluorinated compound is decomposed by heat, so that the fluorine is introduced into the silica in the form of a vitreous mass on a support which is stable to heat. / p & & p & synthetic silica thus doped can be used in particular for the production of preforms intended for the production of optical fibers. / p
