Ion sensing electrode and methods for producing such electrodes and ion-selective membranes therefor, said membranes comprising a plastic member having a desired shape. The plastic member is soaked in a solvent which is a swelling agent for said plastic and in which an ion-selective material is dissolved. Subsequently the solvent is removed from the member. This method allows the use of preformed polymeric members having the desired shape to produce ion-selective membranes, allowing simplified production of ion-sensing electrodes, as well as combination ion-sensing and reference electrodes.
