The invention relates to a process and an arrangement for preparing tuff pumice and fine pumice, in which the tuff pumice and fine pumice raw material is separated according to grain quality and/or grain size, extremely coarse-grained and/or heavy material being separated out as waste. The result of the process according to the invention and the arrangement according to the invention is a particularly advantageous aggregate for lightweight masonry mortar which can be readily mixed with the other mortar components and makes possible in particular a saving of cement. Furthermore, with the use of the aggregate produced by the process according to the invention, a workability of the ready mixed mortar of up to 36 hours is achieved. The invention provides essentially for the tuff pumice and fine pumice raw material from six different localities to be combined according to the required ideal grain-size distribution curve to form a material stream, to be separated from oversized grain of 4 mm by means of a screening machine and then to be mixed with a tuff-trass material which has been obtained as pit material, is cleaned of heavy accompanying substances and possesses a grain size of 1.5 mm.
