For the sake of cleaner air in towns, it would be desirable to equip a relatively large number of motor vehicles with an electric drive in order to reduce the effects of exhaust gases. Most motor vehicles are used for in-town commuting, that is to say for travelling from and to the driver's place of work and electric cars would be particularly suitable for this distance. However, since these motor vehicles should also be available for, for example, holiday trips, these vehicles cannot be replaced by electric cars with a strictly limited range. In order to compensate for this disadvantage of electric cars, it is proposed to provide the electric cars with a trailer for the long-distance trips which people wish to make, on which trailer a suitable power generator which is driven for example by an internal combustion engine is mounted.
