Process for leaching metals from sludge, mud, ores and industrial waste

Metal-containing materials of natural and industrial origin, for example sewage sludge, dredger silt, filter dusts, slags, ores of inadequate quality for smelting, and electrocoating waste, are extracted with aqueous solutions of chelating agents. The metal-loaded chelating agents, which are now metal concentrates, are precipitated from the extracts and worked up. Owing to their chemical structure, the chelating agents can be recovered. Sulphidically bonded metals are extracted using sulphur-containing chelating agents.
