Process for cleaning the sewer pipe of a siphon construction. An impounding basin is arranged upstream of the sewer pipe which is to be cleaned. Cleaning of the sewer pipe by a high degree of flushing by means of sewage (waste water) is commanded at time intervals, for which purpose the sewer pipe is first of all shut off by the shutting-off means, followed by detection of reaching a predetermined, first water level which arises in the impounding basin or is a measure for said water level in the impounding basin. On reaching this first water level, the shutting-off means are opened and the command is given for the throughflow, which effects a high degree of flushing, of sewage through the sewer pipe.
