A high tensile strength element for dynamically stressed elastic articles, such as conveyor belts, drive belts, tension belts, running belts and chains for motor vehicles or the like, consists of a multiplicity of essentially unidirectionally extending high strength fibres (2) of a plastics material, such as polyamide, polyester and aramid, or minerals, such as carbon and glass, or the like fibre-forming materials, which have been embedded in an elastic matrix (3) in such a way that the individual fibres (2) do not touch.
