In conventional applications of liquid carbon dioxide for refrigeration, only the CO2 snow produced by expanding the latter can effectively be used for the refrigeration. The CO2 gas produced in this case in approximately similar quantity is, with its minimal cold content, unsuitable for refrigeration. The character6istics of the invention allow ultracooling of this gas by passing it through the CO2 snow using a tube. Other gases can be ultracooled in this way simultaneously or separately. It is used at ultracool temperatures for refrigerating or freezing organic materials such as foodstuffs, for example for vacuum-pressure shock freezing, especially in mincing or mixing machines, where it is injected into the material being processed by means of nozzle hoses. The ultracool gassification is also advantageous in vacuum-packing or protective-gas-packing technology.
