Method for manufacturing of surgical hydrophilic cotton-based dressings and products thus obtained. The method comprises: introduction into a mould 6 which is open at its ends and drilled with an orifice 7, of a determined quantity of hydrophillic cotton; penetration into this mass by a rotating tool 5 thereby driving it against the internal walls of the mould through its movement; ejection out of the mould of the body or core 11 thus formed; and wrapping it in a heat-weldable plastic gauze which is extended by an appendage with an intermediate neck; the product thus constituted being treated in a device with a heating resistor providing the cutting of the appendage at the level of the neck, its removal, and the closure of the rest of the wrapping by welding at the gathering point of the fabric.
