METHOD AND DEVICE FOR THE DETECTION AND LOCATION OF LEAKS AT THE WALLS OF A BASIN SUCH AS A SWITCHING POOL FOR NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

This method is intended to detect and locate leaks in the walls of a tank, such as a spent fuel pit of a nuclear power station. According to this method, a part of the submerged wall 8 to be tested of the tank is hermetically isolated under fluid pressure, by a box 7 fitted with an open face applied onto the said wall part, the pressure of this fluid being regulated in order, at the start of the test, to be less than that prevailing in the tank in the vicinity of the box and greater than that prevailing on the external side of the said wall part. The pressure variations of the fluid in the box on various parts of the wall are then measured by moving the box along the latter, so that an insulation fault of the wall part to be tested is detected by an increase in the pressure inside the box and so that a leak in this wall part is detected by a decrease in the pressure inside this box.
