The invention relates to a device making it possible to propel a craft by acting directly on the water with the aid of two paddles, the device making it possible to convert a simple oscillating movement due to the action of the user into simultaneous beating of the paddles in opposite directions. It consists of a box 1 containing three bevel gears 2 and 3. The gear 2 is secured to a shaft 4 passing through the box. This shaft is moved with an oscillating movement by means of an adaptable arm 8, this arm serving to transmit the human force. The two gears 3 are secured to two coaxial shafts 5 passing through the box 1 and to which the paddles are fixed. A rotational movement of the gear 2 drives the rotational movement, in opposite directions, of the gear 3, giving rise to the beating of the paddles. The device is connected by means of a support 7 to the craft. The support 7 has the complementary role of making it possible to change the immersion depth of the device and of changing its orientation.
