Device for measuring the plasma volume, the cell volume and the total blood volume at the bed of the patient or in ambulatory mode

A device combines a haematocrit microcentrifuge on a capillary tube, a small 6200 ANGSTROM wavelength reflection photometer, and a computer. The blood sample in the capillary tube before and after injection of a given dose of a dye (Evans Blue) into the body is centrifuged, which makes it possible to determine the haematocrit of the patient, and to collect his plasma which is deposited on a strip of cloth, the change in whose colour is analysed by photometry, defining the plasma volume. Formulae make it possible to deduce therefrom the cell volume and the total blood volume.
