In a compacting press of known type, blocking of the shafts of the work drums 4, 5 on the head of the machine is obtained automatically with the aid of a frontal plate 16 held in traction by the expansion effect of a series of Belleville washers 19. Adjustment of the position of the abovementioned drums with respect to the die 8 is made from outside, even when the press is operating, by means of rods 11, 12 controlled by gear motors 14, 15 after release of the front plate through the action of the jack 20.
