Midsole 10, 22 of shoe 12 for physical activities which has an insert 10 and a peripheral element 22. The peripheral element 22 is connected to the periphery of an upper surface 18 of an outer sole 14 to form a housing 28. A reinforcing layer 31 significantly thinner than the peripheral element 22 is connected to the upper surface 18 of the outer sole and located in the housing 28. Several independent damping elements 34 hang from the base 32 of the insert 10 and are dimensioned to conform to the height of the peripheral element 22. The damping capacity and the resistance of the added element 10 can be chosen according to the weight of the user and the damping which he prefers .
