The machine has a mobile chassis (2) supporting, at its leading end, a first cutter assembly (7) which cuts the crop stems close to their bases. A conveyor system (5) transports the stems individually, maintaining them in a vertical orientation. A second cutter assembly (8) at the upper end of the conveyor cuts the stems close to their heads, at a predetermined length. Positioning fingers (9) at the leading end of the chassis ensure that the stems are oriented vertically before cutting. USE - Collection of seed pods, esp. of onions, leeks and similar crops.
