PURPOSE: To close and seal a prickle hole on artery by applying pressure with balloon expansion, introducing laser energy through optical fiber and balloon, and fusing the prickle hole with heat. CONSTITUTION: A closing unit 30 with shrunk balloon 38 is advanced through an introduction unit 14 to a prickle hole part 32 then the balloon 38 is expanded with a fluid source 44. The expanded balloon 38 and the tube 36 are applied with a pressure at the prickle hole part 32 so that the edge of the prickle hole 20 approximately matches and simultaneously closes. Laser 52 is energized while the balloon 38 is expanded. Laser energy is guided through the optical fiber 50 and irradiated on the prickle hole part 32. Laser 52 is stopped after heat fusion of the artery wall. The balloon 38 is preferably maintained in the expanded state after laser 52 stop so that the prickle hole part 32 can be cooled. Then, the balloon 38 is shrunk and both the closing unit 30 and the catheter introduction unit 14 are removed.
