PURPOSE: To improve internal burst strength, gas and water permeability of a microporous polymeric hollow fiber by immersing the fiber in hot water at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION: A microporous polymeric hollow fiber made from a polymer selected from the group consisting of a polysulfone, a polyether sulfone, a polyvinylidene fluoride and a polyether-imide is immersed in water at 70-160 deg.C for 5 minutes to 6 hours and heated to give a hollow fiber having =28.1 kg/cm2 (400 psi) operational burst strength.
