PURPOSE:To limit the range of cable which will not be usable upon occurrence of fault by providing steps in the cable with predetermined interval when an oil-filled submarine cable is laid. CONSTITUTION:An oil-filled submarine cable 2 is laid with steps being provided with predetermined interval. When a fault such as damage occures in the cable between points A and B, oil in the cable is substituted by sea water at a point lower than a fault point 4, but the substitution phenomenon is stopped through the step arranged at point B and damage is limited within this range.
