NEW MATERIAL:One of the geometrical isomers of a triazole compound of formula I (X is halogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, phenoxy, phenyl, cyano or nitro; n is 0-5; R is alkyl, cyclopropyl or alkyl substituted with alkylsulfenyl) or its salt. EXAMPLE:The E-isomer of 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4-dimethyl-2-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)- 1-penten-8-ol. USE:Agricultural and horticultural fungicide, plant growth regulator, and herbicide. PROCESS:The objective isomer can be prepared by reducing one of the two geometrical isomers of a ketone compound of formmula II, wherein the NMR spectrum (deuterochloroform solution) of olefinic proton is at the higher magnetic field side in the selected isomer than in the other isomer.
