PURPOSE:To stably cool a nuclear reactor vessel for a long period by providing a dry well with a transmission tube and connecting it to a water replenishing pool and a stack on the outside of the nuclear reactor containment to discharge the heat in the nuclear reactor containment to the air. CONSTITUTION:At the time of an accident steam filled in a dry well 3 passes a vent tube 7 to depress water in the vent tube 7 and flows up to the lower part in a suppression pool 4, and high-temperature and high-pressure steam transmits heat to water in the suppression pool 4 and is condensed. The temperature of water in a heat transmission tube 10 rises by condensation of steam in the vapor-phase part in the dry well 3 and flows into an upper plenum 9a as two-phase currents while boiling. Vapor and water are separated in the upper plenum 9a, and steam is discharged to the air from a stack 15 through a piping 17b. Thus, heat in the nuclear reactor containment is discharged to the air, and the nuclear reactor containment is stably cooled for a long period.
