PURPOSE:To make the operation and control of a treatment tank automatic and carry out drain treatment at low cost by controlling aeration and non- aeration based on the settling rate of sludge related to the ratio of nitrate nitrogen to ammoniac nitrogen in the treated water as an indication. CONSTITUTION:When aeration and non-aeration are repeated alternately in one treated water tank and decomposition of an organic material and also removal of nitrogen are carried out at high rate, the time ratio of aeration and non-aeration of intermittent aeration is adjusted based on the settling rate of sludge related to the ratio of nitrate nitrogen to ammoniac nitrogen as an indication. The number of cycles of troublesome measuring of the volume of ammoniac nitrogen and the volume of nitrate nitrogen is reduced by a large extent, and aeration condition can be adjusted almost automatically to make the operation and control of a treatment tank automatic and carry out treatment of drain at low cost.
