GRAPHITE-SILICON CARBIDE BRICK FOR BLAST FURNACE

PURPOSE:To obtain the title brick of both high SiC content and thermal conductivity with excellent heat spalling resistance by adding a phenol-based resin to a mixture of graphite, SiC, Si and specific metal silicide at specified proportion followed by press forming and reductive baking. CONSTITUTION:A blend of (A) 40-70 pts.wt. of flaky graphite, (B) 30-50 pts.wt. of SiC, (C) 4-10 pts.wt. of metallic Si, and (D) 0.2-5 pts.wt. of at least one kind of compound selected from CrSi2, TiSi2, ZrSi2, MoSi2, WSi2, TaSi2, and NbSi2, is admixed with 8-15 pts.wt. of a phenol-based resin binder followed by fluidized drying to regulate volatile content. The resultant raw powder is then put to press forming and reductive baking to obtain the objective brick. The metallic Si and metal silicide in this brick have sufficiently reacted with the carbon therein to form SiC, thus manifesting sufficiently high mechanical strength.
