USE:A polymerizable monomer producing a transparent cured material having high heat resistance, low water absorption properties and high refractive index. A raw material for coating compound, adhesive, casting material, photosensitive resin, optical material, etc. PREPARATION:4,4'-Dimercaptodiphenyl sulfide is converted into an alkali metallic salt by using an aqueous solution of NaOH, the solution is mixed with a phase transfer catalyst (e.g. tetraethylammonium bromide), an alkali and approximately the same volume ratio of a water-insoluble organic solvent (e.g. benzene) stable to acid as that of the aqueous solution of the alkali and a methacrylic acid halide is gradually dripped into the reaction solution of two phase system to give a compound shown by the formula.
