PURPOSE:To provide an infusion solution preparation effective for the physical strength maintenance and immune function improvement of patients fallen in an intravital protein catabolism-accelerating state by containing 3- hydroxybutyric acid having (R) type steric configuration or a salt thereof. CONSTITUTION:An infusion solution preparation for supplying energy to patients fallen in a intravital protein catabolism-accelerating state, e.g. a patient having stress in his body, a patient lowered in the function of his liver or a patient unable to orally ingest foods and for inhibiting the intravital protein metabolism of the patients contains 3-hydroxybutyric acid having (R) type steric configuration or a salt thereof (e.g. Na salt, L-lysine salt or L-histidine salt). The infusion solution preparation is preferably adjusted e.g. to an inorganic electrolyte- containing extracellular supplementary solution having a 3-hydroxybutyric acid concentration of 0.30-0.85wt.%, a pH of 4.5-8.0 and an osmotic pressure ratio of 0.7-1.7 or to a maintenance infusion solution having a 3-hydroxybutyric acid concentration of 0.18-2.4wt.%, a pH of 4.0-8.0 and an osmotic pressure ratio of 1.0-3.0 and subsequently directly administered into a vein.
