POST-PROCESSING SYSTEM FOR CHARACTER RECOGNITION OF SOLID-WRITTEN ADDRESS

PURPOSE:To accurately perform the recognition post-processing of a solid-written address in which places of plural hierarchies are written by automatically segmenting the recognition result of an entered address to a place name at every hierarchy. CONSTITUTION:A retrieval range extraction circuit 2 decides a retrieval range so that the sum of the number of characters of the place name from the route of tree structure to each node does not exceed the number of entered characters in each node of the tree structure. When the decision of the retrieval range is completed, a word position detection circuit 3 detects a part from what position of character to what position of character the place name of each node within the retrieval range is equivalent to. Furthermore, a similarity calculation circuit 4 calculates similarity between the place name of each node and the corresponding part of the recognition result. After the calculation of the similarity of all nodes within the retrieval range are completed, a post-processing result output circuit 5 calculates the sum of the similarity of each node on each path of the tree structure with in the retrieval range, and outputs the address of the path with the highest similarity out of them as a post- processing result.
